“You make me feel so young”

Blog Day 208                 Thursday             June 28, 2012
“You make me feel so young”
Day 203)
When I hear the phrase “You make me feel so young” I immediately think…energy. If you think back to when you were younger you will probably agree that you had more energy. I will bet you have asked yourself. ..How can I get that energy back? Well you it is easier than you think but it does require so work on your part.  Increase your activity levels…you don’t have to run a marathon start with a walk after dinner. You don’t have to get a gym membership; there are a lot of ways to make that happen for example you can ride your bike or take the stairs. Just get your body moving and your heart pumping! Don’t forget your vitamins. You will feel better and your body will thank you for it.

“You give me fever”

Blog Day 207                 Wednesday        June 27, 2012
“You give me fever”
Day 202)

Just by the sound of the title you are probably asking yourself…self what is she talking about?  What I am talking about is the ever common summer cold. I know you are probably thinking, who gets a summer cold? You would be surprised at the number of people who get summer colds.  Randy Wexler, MD, assistant professor of family medicine at the Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus says not to be confused, summer colds and allergies are not the same.  A cold is a virus and active year around though most prevalent in the winter months. The best way to combat a summer cold is prevention.

Just because you haven’t caught a cold doesn’t mean you won’t. Proper rest and hydration as well as eating properly and reducing undo stress are some of the ways to keep your body strong and able to combat sickness, but your daily vitamins are just as important. Be sure to take your vitamins daily also a little extra like vitamin C, D and B12. These will help keep you feeling great!

“Vitamin D…Wonder vitamin”

Blog Day 206                 Tuesday               June 26, 2012
“Vitamin D…Wonder vitamin”
Day 202)
We are living in an age where information is at our finger tips. With that being said it is a shame that we are not more informed about the natural supplements that are available to us that will help us avoid symptoms that may make us dependent on traditional medication.  One of those supplements is vitamin D. What do we know about vitamin D? We know that the best way to obtain vitamin D is from the sun, however because of fear of sun damage most Americans stay out of the sun causing an epidemic of vitamin deficient adults and children. Did you also know that vitamin D also promotes the absorption of calcium in the gut and it also helps maintains adequate serum calcium and phosphate concentrations to enable normal mineralization of bone?
A study at the University of Minnesota showed that people with higher levels of vitamin D lost more weight than those who were vitamin D deficient. Other studies have also shown that leptin which is the hormone that triggers the “full” sensation in the brain is boosted by vitamin D. Due to the fact that there are few foods that are rich in vitamin D many experts recommend that we take a daily dose of vitamin D. Ask your doctor about a simple blood test to determine if you are vitamin deficient.

Bedtime

Blog Day 202                 Thursday             June 21, 2012
“Bedtime!”
Day 202)
Our daily lives are filled with so much stress. We have so much to do and so many to do for. With work and our home lives, it is almost impossible to get everything done in one day. What happens is that we put off giving our bodies what they need so that we can complete our tasks. We skip meals or eat fast food on the run or simply replace meals by turning coffee or sodas into a meal replacement. Now it is holiday time and the stressors have increased and so has the neglecting of our bodies. One of the most common mistakes that we make at holiday time is that we will forfeit sleep in order to get things done. “GO TO BED! “ is the best advice I can give you. Studies by the University of Chicago Medical Center have shown that a lack of sleep reduces the capacity to perform basic metabolic functions such as processing and storing carbohydrates or regulating hormone secretion.  Studies have also shown that sleep deprivation also effects brain function and behavior.  So in essence a lack of sleep will shut down your body.  So go to bed! Get some rest.
